RATCH turns for synergy with EGAT Group to extend its international presence, aiming Myanmar and other Asian countries to reinforce Thailand leading IPP in the region

Nonthaburi – Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited (“RATCH”) presents its business strategy to drive up the company’s growth to achieve its business goal of becoming a Thailand leading IPP in the region. The company has planned to synergy with associated companies of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) for joint-investment both in domestic and overseas markets along with expertise and knowledge sharing in various areas for the country’s power system stability.  

Mr. Pongdith Potchana, Chief Executive Officer, said that the company's strategy and business direction remain focusing on investment in both primary fuel and renewable projects; however, the investment scheme is adjusted for a well balance of green-field project development and acquisition to facilitate the company’s steady growth and financial stability. In extending its overseas investments, the company prioritizes on the neighboring countries because generated electricity is able to be distributed to Thailand for her power stability and to help maintain tariff rate for economy development. Also, the company foresees the investment opportunities in related business such as transmission system and training services for operation and maintenance that could generate steady incomes for the company.

“RATCH has determined Myanmar as a priority destination due to its potential power demand from growing economy. Indonesia is also our potential target as it has constant economic growth and vast coal supply for power generation. As for Japan, it is our new aim because of more potential for acquisition and renewable project development with reasonable returns”, said Mr. Pongdith.

At present, the company has organized its business structure into 2 main lines:
• Power generation business including the primary fuel projects and renewable projects
• Related business concerning power generation including transmission system, operation & maintenance training, operation & maintenance service, coal mining, and gas-turbine refurbishment

The company’s main incomes are generated from three bases; Thailand, Lao PDR, and Australia, and investment expansion has been planned in the three countries. Currently, business negotiation and feasibility study have been undertaken on three projects in Lao PDR., meanwhile three projects in Australia are under process of construction permission. In Thailand, the company focuses more on renewable projects and joint investment in power-related business.

On the other hand, managing the current assets to attain utmost benefits and generate the proficient incomes will drive the company for steady growth, generate fruitful returns to stakeholders and sustainably maintain our position as a leading company in power generation business”
Presently, RATCH’s operated and under development projects accounts 6,302.52 megawatts installed capacity deriving from 4,586.5 megawatts in Thailand, 1,206.5 megawatts in Lao PDR, and 509.52 megawatts in Australia. This year, there are seven new projects under investment consideration consisting of two wind power projects in Australia with a total capacity of 420 megawatts, a 20 megawatts solar power project in Australia, and other three solar power projects in the Asian country with a total capacity of 45 megawatts. The company will seek for additional new large-scaled generations of approximately 1,000 megawatts from neighboring countries in order to achieve its target of 7,800 megawatts by the year 2016.

The company has recently announced the interim dividend payment of 6-month operating performance in 2013, at 1.10 baht per share. The payment date is scheduled to be on 18 September 2013.
