RFD - RATCH seek for the winner of National Community Forest Award 2019 in "Love the Forest and the Community" Program Community forests nationwide are invited to participate in the contest form until April 15, 2019

Bangkok - The Royal Forest Department (RFD), in partnership with Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited (RATCH), will organize the 12th National Community Forest Contest in 2019 under the "Love the Forest and the Community" program to select the best community forest, with excellent forest management in conservation and proper consumption based on the goal of "Forest Sustainability for the Community’s Benefit." The winner of "the 2019 National Community Forest Award" will be entitled to receive HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Trophy. Application submission opens now until April 15, 2019.

Mrs. Ammnuayporn Choldumrongkul, RFD Deputy Director General, said "the community forest is RFD’s strategy implemented to protect and sustain the nation’s forest areas over two decades. In 2008, RATCH took part in supporting community forest-related works under the ‘Love the Forest and the Community’ program by encouraging community’s participation in community forest conservation. It is regarded as the private sector’s support that helps rapidly and broadly expand the community forest area nationwide. On the part of the recent draft of the Community Forest Act approved by the National Legislative Assembly, the communities are allowed to join hand with the government sector in conservation, restoration, management, sustaining and consumption of natural resources, environment and biodiversity in the forest. The said implementation will enable the swift establishment of 21,850 community forests, with 19-million-rai forest areas nationwide to achieve the goal.

Regarding the current 14,309 registered community forest and a total area of 7 million rai, there are 2,003,260 households receiving benefits from the community forest, with the value of the community forest dependency of 5,245 million baht. The assessed value of forest’s ecosystem reaches 639,973 million baht. With the target forest area of 19 million rai, there will be 3,059,000 households receiving benefits from the community forest. The value of the community forest dependency will be 14,115 million baht and the value of the forest ecosystem will reach 1,713,986 million baht.

Mrs. Boontiva Dansamasatid, RATCH Executive Vice President - Corporate Administration, said that the community forest contest is one of three main activities under ‘2019 Love the Forest and the Community’ program, which is the company’s flagship social responsibility project and now enters into the third phase (2018 – 2022). Activities under this project include selection of the best community forest that meets the criteria to be the role model of development and the learning center of forest management, implements well-organized conservation and development process, welcomes active participation from all parts of communities. For this year, the initiatives of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun inherited from His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on balanced natural resource consumption to support living for benefits of all people was induced as the criteria for selecting 2019 Outstanding Community Forest Award winner with best performance in "Continual Conservation and Development for Benefits of All People". To pursue an aim of sustainable development, the company commits to taking part in forest protection and conservation to maintain the sources of water, food and carbon sink for mitigating global warming impact.

2019 National Community Forest Award can be divided into two categories:

  1. 144 prizes for 5 levels of the National Community Forest Award:
    • The winner of the National Community Forest Award will receive the royal trophy of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and the signboard of achievement installed at the community forest, with 200,000-baht prize.
    • Each of three runner-up prizes of the National Community Forest Award will receive the trophy and the signboard of achievement installed at the community forest, with 100,000- baht prize.
    • Each of four prizes for Regional Community Forest Award will receive the honorable plaque and the signboard of achievement installed at the community forest, with 30,000- baht prize.
    • Each of 68 prizes for Provincial Community Forest Award will receive the honorable plaque and the signboard of achievement installed at the community forest, with 25,000- baht prize.
    • Each of 68 consolation prizes of Community Forest Award will receive the honorable plaque and the signboard of achievement installed at the community forest, with 10,000- baht prize.
  2. Four prizes for the Outstanding Community Forest Award in the category of "Community Forest: Continual Conservation and Development for Benefits of All People":
    • The winner of the Outstanding Community Forest Award will receive the trophy and the signboard of achievement installed at the community forest, with 100,000- baht prize
    • Each of three runner-up prizes of the Outstanding Community Forest Award will receive the trophy and the signboard of achievement installed at the community forest, with 25,000- baht prize

Application form is available at the Forest Resource Management Offices No. 1-13 and all branches of Forest Resource Management offices, and also can be downloaded from the RFD website: www.forest.go.th. or http://www.ratch.co.th/en/news/csr-news/5061/. The interested community can submit an application form until April 15, 2019.
