RATCH expands into 340-MW Xekong 4A & 4B hydroelectric power projects in Lao PDR

Nonthaburi - Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited (RATCH) is ready for expansion into 340-MW Xekong 4A & 4B hydroelectric power project in Lao PDR. It is a joint investment that respectively reports the progress and on May 29, 2018, the company together with partners, and the Government of Lao PDR have already entered into the Project Development Agreement (PDA) for Xekong 4A & 4B hydroelectric power project. 

Mr. Kijja Sripatthangkura, RATCH CEO, said that the company is pursuing for 850-MW investment goal of 2018 both domestic and international, currently, RATCH has decided to jointly venture in Xekong 4A & 4B hydroelectric power project with Lao World Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (“LW”) and B. Grimm Power Public Company Limited. They cooperatively conducted and completed the feasibility study as well as Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) that had been already approved by the Ministry of Energy and Mines as well as Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment of Lao PDR.

 “The recent signing on the Project Development Agreement among the company, Ministry of Planning and Investment and Ministry of Energy and Mines assures that the company and partners was permitted by the Laotian government to start the development of a combined 340-MW Xekong 4A & 4B hydroelectric power project consisting of two reservoirs: 4A Xekong reservoir located in Lamam district and 4B Xekong reservoir located in Kaluem district, Xekong province. The company plans to talk about power purchase with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), under 9,000MW power cooperation framework between Thailand and Lao PDR. It expects that electricity of the project will help serve demand in Northeastern Thailand.” Mr. Kijja added.

On May 29, 2018, RATCH and business partners jointly entered into the Project Development Agreement for Xekong 4A & 4B Hydroelectric Power Project, with Ministry of Planning and Investment and Ministry of Energy and Mines at Vientiane province, Lao PDR.
